Many people, companies, etc have prospered through social media and web-based interactions. Though I do believe that many has succumbed to the fact that they have an obligation to the “friends” on their social media. “Friends” should not feel like a chore, or be just another name on a list. To know a friend’s name is easy, but to understand the meaning behind their name is a totally different playing field. I believe that humans have lost that sense of affection, compassion, and true self when relating themselves on social media, but then at the same time, social media is just really a facade that people put on for themselves and others. Like the woman who said that she did not feel like she was being her real self on facebook, it is because you don’t necessarily have to be an open book on social media. Really, on the web, you are just another profile and another webpage within the inter-net’s search engine. Overall I think that it has been difficult for people to become close because of this obligation to have a facebook, twitter, etc. People think you’re automatically weird for not having at least one of these in this day of age, and it seems as though people don’t interact with you as much because of that mere fact. Even though I am a quiet person, people truly need to have more intimate conversations outside of the electronic world.
