The point and shoot market is well established with big names like Canon, Nikon and Sony. Nikon and Samsung are about to release Android based Point and shoots. This is huge, because Android is open source and add that to the already existing patents are between existing manufacturers (and hatred of Apple by a lot of the other big tech companies) it would be hard for Apple to compete. It will boil down to choice, interoperability, standards and an open walled ecosystem.

I can only imagine an Apple based point and shoot: No SD card (or even MicroSD), proprietary plugs, non standard camera mount, no removable battery, many revisions behind hardware (older bluetooth, no 802.11AC wifi), poor compatibility with Windows (or, hell, a requirement for iTunes to sync images…. scary) and the price……….
