During a long hot summer in inner city Dublin, a man looks back on his own youth. The film captures one of the more unusual sides of Dublin City in beautiful stark black & white photography. A combination of contemporary images of young Dubliners diving into the Grand Canal with a nostalgic, poetic voice-over from Irish folklorist, Terry Fagan. Motherland are a new production company in Dublin, Ireland, who spent a few weeks during a heatwave this summer, making this short documentary. *Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at The Why Not? Adventure Film Festival Ireland 2013* *Official Selection at San Jose International Short Film Festival 2013* *Official Selection at Lviv International Short Film Festival Wiz-Art Ukraine 2013* Music 'Bathtime for Lies' by Bantum http.//bantum.bandcamp.com Voice Over Excerpts from an Interview with Terry Fagan Directed by Ross Killeen Filmed by Keith Harrison Peter O' Brien John Cutler Edited by Joe Rigby Original Concept Joe Rigby]]>

Judgement Day in Ireland? https://documentary.net/video/judgement-day-in-ireland/ https://documentary.net/video/judgement-day-in-ireland/#respond Mon, 18 Mar 2013 17:14:47 +0000 http://documentary.net/?p=9469

When a national inquiry into abuse claims in the Catholic Church was launched in Ireland, thousands of victims saw it as their long-overdue moment of justice. But why have no criminal prosecutions followed? "It was full of terror. Adults were beating up children for nothing," remembers Bernadette Fahey. She is one of the thousands of victims who have sought justice from the Catholic Church for their stolen childhoods. Frustratingly, it is the unfathomable extent of the crimes that halted the inquiry. Also, the police could not use information provided to the Commission and religious bodies went to the High Court to stop the Commission from naming any of their members. Although a compensation payout had been agreed, the Church moved quickly to limit its financial liability. This offers little consolation to John Kelly: "He's enjoying his retirement. I have nightmares every night about what he did to me. How could they call that justice?"]]>
