ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS

ADÁN ALIAGA

His first documentary, “My Grandmother’s House” (2006), won numerous international awards including the prestigious Joris Ivens Award at the IDFA Documentary Festival and a nomination for Best Documentary by the European Academy of Cinema. Since then he has filmed seven feature films: “Stigmata”, 2009, Pilar Miró Award for Best Debut Film at the Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci), “Dodge and hit”, 2011, co-directed with Juanjo Gimenez, best documentary at Alcances Film Festival, “The Eternauta’s wife”, (2011) premiered at Sitges Film Festival, “Kanimambo” (2012) special jury mention at Málaga, “Noah’s Ark”, (2014), co-directed with David Valero, premiered at SEMINCI, Best Film in the MADRID PNR and “Fishbone” (2018), premiered at Mostra de Valencia. His last short documentary, “The Fourth Kingdom”, codirected with Alex Lora was nominated to Goya Awards and won a NY-Emmy.

He has screened twice at Sundance as Official Selection (“Odysseus’ Gambit” 2012; “Godka Cirka” 2014). He has received two NY-Emmy and three nominations in the documentary series “Nueva York” (2014). Alex also received a Gaudi from the Catalan Academy after being nominated on three occasions for his works (“Godka Cirka”, 2014; “Odysseus’ Gambit”, 2012, and “Enterrados”, 2010). He has been a finalist for the Oscars-Student Academy Awards for his film “Us” in 2012. His last documentary “Thy Father’s Chair”, premiered at IDFA Amsterdam (2015). Short documentary, “The Fourth Kingdom”, codirected with Adán Aliaga was nominated to Goya Awards. His work has received over 100 awards in some of the most internationally-acclaimed festivals.
